ANTI-PIRACY SWEEPING EXERCISE
The Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA) says it will not relent in its quest to confiscate the infringing devices from unlicensed operators to ensure the country’s artists and creative industry benefit from their sweat.
COSOMA executive director, Dora Makwinja told Zodiak Online today that this will respect artists’ economic rights in accordance with Section 29 of the Copyright Act of 2016.
This comes after COSOMA conducted anti-piracy sweeping exercise of all unregistered computers from 10th to 11th February in Kasungu, Salima, and Nkhotakota; the exercise which is expected to cover the remaining districts.
Musician Union of Malawi (MUM) president, Vita Chirwa has lauded COSOMA for reviving the action, describing piracy as the biggest enemy killing the creative industry in Malawi and elsewhere.
According to COSOMA, the exercise involves soft copy operators, pubs, copy shops, lodging facilities, and secondary and university institutions.
